WEC 47 - Bowles vs Cruz
The World Extreme Cagefighting officials seem to be trying to make the first trip to Ohio a memorable one. The promoter and the company have added an intriguing fight for the already gifted match.
The company announced today a fight between the exciting prospects Anthony Pettis (8-1 MMA, 1-1 WEC) and Danny Castillo (8-2 MMA, 3-2 WEC) for “WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz “
Filing a title fight between featherweight champion Brian Bowles and the top contender Dominick Cruz, WEC 47 will be held on March 6th at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Pettis wats revenge for the first defeat of his career.
“Showtime” lost in a split decision in a tough bout against Bart Palaszewski in last December’s event of WEC 45 in Las Vegas. Before the fighter’s defeat, the 22-year-old product of Duke Roufus had opened his career with eight straight wins.
Meanwhile, Castillo also wants revenge for a recent defeat, the second such result in his career.
“Last Call” was submitted in the third round of a fight that he seemed to win against Shane Roller at WEC 44 last November. Before the defeat, Castillo had wins over Ricardo Lamas, Phil Cardella and Rafael Dias. Castillo, 30 years old, currently trains with Urijah Faber Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, Calif..
WEC 47 represents the company’s first trip to Ohio. The developer attempted to visit Youngstown, Ohio, in 2009, but due to a series of injuries to key competitors, they had to reschedule the WEC show.
